The wife’s tale

by Aïda Edemariam

This is the telling of twentieth century Ethiopian history through the life of the author’s grandmother who lived through many major events. This includes the fascist invasion and occupation by Italians. The rise and fall of Emperor Haile Selassie as well as revolution. Born in Gondar Ethiopia in 1916 , she married off at age 8 to a man twenty years her senior. You get a sense of the strength of her character and an insight into her turbulent life. This is a memoir that I’m enjoying so far. Ethiopia is a landlocked country located in East Africa.

Ethiopia was among the first countries to sign the United Nations. The headwaters of the African Union are located in Ethiopia's capital Addis Ababa. The Ethiopian Orthodox Church is one of the oldest organised Christian organisations in the world. Christianity was introduced in the 4th century
