My current research focuses on the environmental history of coastal Nigeria. I am currently writing an urban environmental history of the port city of Warri.
My previous research focuses on the Warri kingdom, which is located in the Niger-Delta region of Nigeria. Its current geopolitical importance since the 1950s, lies in the extraction of crude oil from the region. The Itsekiri people are a minority nationally numbering around 1 million people, yet they are a disproportionately influential group in a country of 220 million.
